A Good Night's Sleep starts from the minute you wake up!

This year's theme is "Make Sleep a Priority"

Last week I was interviewed by Kosi on eTV's "The Morning Show' sharing a few practical tips on how to make "Sleep Your Superpower".

Here are a few of the tips I shared:

Morning Magic

  • First sip: Water, not coffee. After hours without hydration, your body needs water first. A glass jumpstarts metabolism, flushes toxins, and rehydrates your brain. Keep one bedside for an easy morning habit.
  • Catch those morning raysGetting sunlight in your eyes within an hour of waking regulates your circadian rhythm (body clock), boosts alertness and mood, and sets you up for better sleep later.
  • Take a 10-minute walkQuick morning movement signals to your body it's time to be awake and alert, gets blood flowing, and reduces stress before your day begins.

Daytime Discipline

  • Schedule cortisol breaks
  • Help your stress hormone naturally decrease throughout the day with intentional breaks:
  1. Call a friend
  2. Enjoy a mindful coffee break
  3. Practice box breathing
  • The 2pm caffeine cutoff - If you're aiming for lights-out at 10pm, make 2pm your caffeine deadline. With a half-life of +/-8 hours, half of that afternoon coffee / tea is still active when you're trying to sleep!

Evening Excellence

The 90-minute wind-down- give yourself screen-free decompression before bed:

  • Read / listen to a novel
  • Take a warm bath with epsom salts (sooo relaxing)
  • Intimacy with your partner
  • No Partner ...do some gentle stretching or meditation

Sleep isn't just what happens when your head hits the pillow—it's the result of choices you make all day.

Start small with a few good 'changes', and soon they'll daily habits ..it all ladders up to GOOD SLEEP HYGIENE.

Start TODAY!
