Are you "hitting the wall' at work?
It's getting jolly cold in Jozi. It was 4 degrees this morning, and when I run in the mornings it can be as icy as 1 degree at 5am.
It was Comrades last week and all Comrades runners are desperate to keep healthy, and keep the 'bugs at bay'. So now we are checking in on you... are you 'desperate' to SELF MANAGE ... both your Physical and Mental Wellbeing?
I met with two South African Executives from different multinationals as well as another person in USA . The themes were similar, I heard about the dozens of challenges that they are facing on a daily basis in their workplaces, and how they are struggling physical, emotionally and mentally.
The fast-paced corporate world is flipping tough and the demands placed on employees can often feel like an ultra-marathon. The constant pressure to meet deadlines, navigate complex projects, and juggle multiple responsibilities can leave even the most seasoned professionals feeling like they're running an uphill battle. Just like the Comrades Ultra Marathon, the corporate race requires unwavering determination, strategic pacing, and a relentless drive to push themselves.
To succeed in this corporate ultra-marathon, it's essential to be able to #BounceForward after you "hit the wall".
Just as runners push through the infamous "wall" during the race, professionals must learn to overcome their mental barriers and self-doubt, drawing strength from their past successes and the support of their colleagues.
So, lace up your metaphorical running shoes, and let the spirit of the Comrades Ultra Marathon inspire you to tackle your corporate ultra-marathon with the same grit, determination, and unwavering spirit.
My simple provocative Question (for all of us), today is: "Do you have failsafe techniques to help you to push through in times of challenge and adversity?"
Whether it's practicing mindfulness; breathing techniques; seeking support from mentors, colleagues or mates or simply taking a step back to recharge, having these failsafe techniques can make all the difference in your ability to persevere and ultimately cross the finish line!
Have a few 'well oiled' tricks up your sleeve. Mine include daily exercise (these days even a short 3km run will do); fruit and veggies daily, and most importantly (at least) 7 hours of sleep EVERY night!
Boast moment : I have run 5 Comrades. Whoop whoop whoop !
