Monday Movement!

Don't get the Monday Blues!

Embrace the Full Work Week Ahead

Boost Productivity and Morale with Microbursts of Movement:
In today's sedentary work environments, it's easy to get caught up in hours of sitting, leaving us feeling drained, unfocused, and uninspired.Numerous studies have shown that incorporating short, frequent bouts of movement into our workdays can have a profound impact on our brain function, mood, and overall productivity. These "microbursts" of activity, lasting anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes, can make a significant difference.

WHY Microbursts of Movement?
When we move our bodies, we stimulate the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, which can help to improve focus, concentration, and cognitive function. Additionally, physical activity has a positive impact on our mood and emotional well-being, leading to better relationships, stress management, and ultimately, improved productivity.

HOW?
Here are some practical tips to help you and your team incorporate microbursts of movement into your workday:
1. Schedule it in: Block off time in your calendar for your movement breaks, just as you would for any other important meeting or task.

2. Set reminders: Use your phone to set reminders to get up and move every hour. In some of the meetings I facilitate, I encourage participants to move every 30 minutes to keep energy and engagement high. After all we live in the 'Tik Tok' ... quick bursts of concentration interrupted by a quick burst of a 2 min activity!

3. Get creative: Try a variety of activities, from walking meetings to standing meetings. Stand around a flipchart and use debate using drawings / models and squiggly lines.

4. Use 'stuff': Have stretch bands or cordless skipping ropes in your meeting rooms...to add some fun and variety. Give me a shout if you want a 'micro-movement' box of goodies for your meeting rooms.

By prioritizing 'microbursts of movement,' you'll not only boost your brain energy, mood, and productivity, but you'll also foster a culture of wellness and camaraderie within your team. Let's embrace the full work week ahead and make the most of it!
